Aida Avanessian, PhD
Dr. Aida Avanessian joined ADR Partners in March 2013 as an arbitrator and mediator. She is the author of several articles and publications published in legal periodicals, as well as papers presented in conferences on different aspects of Iranian law, making of contracts, special charachteristices of different types of project contracts, project financing, arbitration in inconstruction contracts and denationalization of arbitration.  Dr. Avanessian has also published a book entiteld “Iran-United States Claims Tribunal in Action (seven years of arbitration)” and did final editing of “Making of Contracts under English, French, Iranian and Islamic Law”, both published in London, England.

Immediately upon graduation on 1972, Dr. Avanessian has started work at the Legal Department of Central Bank of Iran whereafter she has joined Owsia Law Offices, first as an associate and then partner and later as partner in the law firm of Torossian, Avanessian & Associates. Since 1996 she has, for more than 10 years, worked in the United Kingdom as off-counsel to several UK major law firms and continues to provide legal advice to said law firms on specific matters of her fields of speciality and experience. She has gained experience in alternative dipute resolution and consensual settlement of disputes in the frame work of the practice of the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal, established in 1980. Since then and in particular in the last 20 years, she has continued acting as as freelance arbitrator and expert witness in international commercial arbitrations.

Dr. Aida Avanessian graduated from University of Tehran, Faculty of Laws and Political Sciences with LLB and LLM degrees in private international law. She continued her post-graduate studies at Kings Collage, University of London in conflict of laws, where she defended her PhD dissertation on arbitration-jurisdictional matters.

Dr. Avanessian practiced law in many fields of law, particularly in the field of petroleum industry contracts, power industry contracts, construction contracts, project contracts (including Buy-Back, BOT, BOOT, EPC), legal administration of contracts, project financing, banking and international trade financing, investment and joint ventures, as well as commercial arbitration etc.
 From 2015 teaches “Topics in Business law. Project Financing” at American university of Armenia.

One of the main goals of Dr. Avanessian’s return to Armenia is to bring her experience of many years in the field of arbitration to efforts directed at the development of different methods of alternative dispute resolution in Armenia, mainly, mediation and arbitration.
